Spent some time this weekend doing a bit of fanart. I tried to do another vector (still haven't totally figured out everything). This is another Spike image from Friendship is Magic. This time, it also features Peewee, Spike's baby phoenix that debuted on the episode, "Dragon Quest".
Ah. When I said tracing, I didn't mean tracing other work, I meant you sketched and then traced it in whatever program you used. And yes, that's what I do too.
Do you use a pen to trace you sketches? I just left the sketches as they are that I used with a pencil.
One more question -- on any sketch you scan, do you make any kind of adjustments (not including cropping images) to the scanned page before using the program on your PC?
Yeah, Inkscape is really nice. The thing I like about vectors is the quality of the images does not decrease or anything, when you increase the size of a vector. It does take some getting use to, though. I'm still learning myself I'm getting better at it, though!
No, I trace it with the curve tool in Paint and then I get rid of everything around the lines using the magic wand tool in Paint.net and then color it in Paint using the bucket tool and stuff. After that, I do the rest in Paint.net like getting rid of the white background and giving their eyes gradients and doing shading and lighting and stuff.
I do, too. My favorite regular character on the show, and my favorite pet (sorry, main ponies, but Peewee wins! ). Spike is a solid character -- love the design of the character, very loyal, dependable, has a really big heart, and he has a lot of character depth and potential. He's certainly very underrated. As for Peewee, I know pets, such as Tank haven't been seen in a very long time, but I do hope Peewee does make another appearance someday.
Hey, thank you for commenting.
I notice your signature -- you're going to be involved in BronyCon this summer? That sounds really cool.
The first person to come out with a Peewee plushie is gunna get pounced on by ME... I just love birds (and tortoises! Yay, TANK) yepyep, I've been overseeing the Artists Alley since the first ever BroNYCon, this'll be my 4th time doing it and MAAAAAAN has it been a lot of work this time! It's the fandom, you see, it done asploded-ed. Who knows what the future holds though - maybe by this time next year, the TV series will have jumped the shark and it'll be back down to a dozen of us locals in the Alley again, selling original art and customs and giving free painting and rehairing tutorials. This June's con is *absolutely* going to be one of the *biggest* fan conventions for a single cartoon series in the whole USA. Meep!
Ah, Inkscape. I need that!
